Greetings from the Lord Mayor Print E-mail

Dear guests,
Dear Neubrandenburg citizens,

Neubrandenburg is just incredible. Our town shows a diversity that invites you to a true journey of exploration at all times.

In the inner city, you will find artefacts of the founding of our town and its early history. First of all, of course there is the nearly completely intact medieval defensive facility with its four gates, and the former St. Mary's church, today known around Europe as an outstanding concert church with magnificent acoustics. Concerts of the Neubrandenburg philharmonic orchestra offer a special musical experience in the state-of-the-art concert hall, surrounded by an impressive brick façade.

The modernised house of culture and education forms a contrast to this. It houses our regional library, our town archive and our tourist information. The core of this ensemble, an impressive multifunctional hall, offers enough space for congresses and events. The modern icon of Neubrandenburg – the HKB-Tower – is impossible to miss. We lovingly call it our "finger of culture".

From the tower, you can see the strengths of Neubrandenburg as a business and cultural centre in the East of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and as a district town very well, from the inner-city green and the diverse architecture to the many small and medium-sized companies, among them high-performance and globally active industrial operations that have settled here. They are a fixed part of our urban life and they support, among others, the high-performance and popular sports that are firmly connected to the name of Neubrandenburg.

The Tollensesee Lake and its diverse banks are a place to be athletically active for both us Neubrandenburg citizens and you, dear guests, as well as a great opportunity to immerse yourselves fully in the diversity of our natural environment. Not far from the lake, there is the Neubrandenburg university. For 25 years, it has made sure that our town is also a very popular site for science and education.

As you can see, Neubrandenburg is a very diverse town. I invite you to be a part of its diversity.

Silvio Witt
Lord Mayor
